                  Meet Akime Nelson                                                (A-kim-ee)

Greetings everyone,

I am so excited and honored to serve as  an educator.   I am always looking forward to working with wonderful students, staff, and  parents!  I am a Georgia native raised in a small town called Bainbridge.  I've been married to my wonderful husband Alfred for 13 years and counting, and we have a wonderful 12 year old son named A.J.

I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, traveling, movies, children's books, great food, and music.  I also really enjoy reading books to the students and seeing how it opens a world of imagination and learning.   I have worked in the education field over 16 years and counting.  I have worked with all elementary grade levels PreK-5th grade.  I have taught PreK, kindergarten, & 2nd grade, served as a 3rd-5th grade EIP teacher. I also tutored K-5th grade students in the areas of reading and math in several public schools. I taught computer technology in DeKalb County Schools, and worked as an educational technologist with DODEA on Fort Campbell Military Base.  I last served as an elementary library media specialist at Flippen Elementary with Henry County Schools.  My educational goals are to continue learning and growing each day because working and learning to become a stronger educator never ends.

I started my educational journey at Bainbridge College earning an AA degree in education and psychology.  I graduated from Valdosta State University with a BSED in early childhood education in 2001.  I earned my Masters in curriculum, instruction, and technology from Nova Southeastern University in 2004.  I am also enrolled in the school library certification program at Northwestern State University of Louisiana.  I always enjoy helping to make a positive impact in the lives of our children.  It is my goal to help in-steal the love of learning and the importance of reading and how it provides infinite learning.

I believe the children are our future...

"I believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. I will help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us, as the core of what makes life so fascinating."
